Hi Gilberto,

I am very grateful for your attempts to help me but after a month we are no
closer to finding a way to receive images. I am in desperate need of a way
for my gammu machine, that sends and receives messages via smsd, to also
receive images (photos). I am willing to switch to wammu if necessary or
try a different modem if that is what is needed. I just need to find a
solution. Is there anyone in the gammu/wammu community that has found a way
to receive images from a phone or modem without the use of a url? If so how
did they do it? If not is there any other solution -- outside of gammu and
wammu -- that would allow me to do this?

hi. using ems with external (url from web) is working. but using gsm
binary format for icons until now not good news. only for caret icons like
:>) :>( :>/ .
if you could find some good and update reference for gsm 2g or 3g or 4g
materials please let me know. we have some gsm v1 and wap materials not
very knew.
any way i keep making tests.

Thank you. Please keep me posted if you are able to pull images from
the modem as this is what I am still not able to do. I can retrieve sms
messages with no problem but cannot retreive images.

Hi. Today i made some tests with device zte MF190, and discovery that
what is "lock" the device is automatic start for gsm ppp mode connection
from ubuntu.

wifi) and after this device works normal.

Ok, when I kill the gammu-smsd daemon and send an image from my
personal cell phone to the modem, I then wait 5 minutes, and try: gammu -c
/etc/gammurc getallsms
0 SMS parts in 0 SMS sequences
If I send a message with text like "Hello World" it receives it. But
it does not receive an image.
gammurc is the same confiuration file as gammu-smsdrc except without
the [smsd] section.

Will it not be possible to received images with the gammu-smsd
daemon running? I have to leave the daemon running 24/7 as it texts me
network status info.

sorry but have you first stop gammu daemon? i assume yes.
i will make some testes using ubuntu 16-04 lts, using telecom tim
and telefonica.

I get: No response in specified timeout. Probably phone not
connected.

Again, the phone is sending is sending messages fine under the
gammu-smsd which is running as a deamon.

issue manual command to try and experiment images and extended
gammu -c your-config getallsmg
see picture and images formats [1] (use control f).

Okay, will the ZTE modem that you recommended work for MMS or
do I need to buy another one? If so can you please recommend a modem or
phone that will work for MMS/wammu?

for images we not use sms but mms. there are some gsm models
and telecom that allow translate image to sms (multiple sms binary
encoded). try use mms.

Hi Roberto,
I purchased a zte mf-190 and have configured it with gammu so
that I am able to send and receive messages. However, when I send a picture
as a message I do not know where it goes to on the linux computer to which
the modem is attached. Is there something else I must do to ba able to
receive images?

I use gammu to send and receive message through a Sony
Erikson Phone. MY problem is that despite service calls and firmware
updates from my service provider, T-Mobile, I am unable to get the phone to
receive images. Can anyone reccommend a phone that can definitly receive
images that works well with Gammu? Or would a Modem be better? If so which
one?
